Nowra Athletics held Round 10 of the Summer Track & Field Competition on Wednesday 10th December with more record success.
Steven Schott was in fine form, claiming both the 60m and 100m record in the 40-49 years category. Steven sprinted 7.5 seconds to win the 60m and then backed it up shortly after with a win in the 100m in 11.9 seconds. Congratulations Steven!
In the 600m Zac Havadjia sprinted his way to the front from the start line and maintained his position until the end. Leith Babian chased him the whole way around and although he couldn’t quite catch him, he broke the 50-59 years record in the process, clocking 1.33.8 minutes. Well done Leith!
In the 1500m it was Eric Moeller-Duhme once again who claimed a record, running 6.56.9 minutes for a new 70 years and over record. Congratulations Eric!
Another athlete on fire this season is Tim Musson. Tim speared another javelin record this week with a mighty throw of 50.10metres. Awesome effort Tim!
Last but certainly not least in our record breakers for Round 10 was Terry Bailey. It was great to see Terry throw 14.82 metres to snare the 70 years and over javelin record. Go Terry!
Of course it is not all about breaking records; it is about having a go and having fun and the boys certainly had fun in high jump last week.
Wil Osgood jumped the highest clearing 1.19 metres. Jackson Musson, Byron Osgood, Lucas Johnson and Ty Schott all cleared 1.10 metres whilst William Dyball and Dylan Johnstone jumped 1.05 metres. Young Liam Johnstone cleared 0.95 metres. Great jumping boys!
In the triple jump there was some close competition between the senior boys with Liam Dooley leaping to 9.89 metres, just edging out Jordan deVries who measured 9.87 metres. All-rounder Sarah deVries jumped 8.93 metres.
The year is winding down and we have just one more week of competition left on Wednesday 14th December.
This will be a Fun Night with novelty events, including the Christmas Mile. This will be followed by a Christmas BBQ. We look forward to seeing everyone there to say Merry Christmas.
Don’t forget that NSW Country Championships will be held at Dubbo on 20-22 January 2017 and entries are now open. Entries are $20 for first event, and $10 for every subsequent event, with a $70 cap.
Family entry is $70 for adults and unlimited children, for any number of events. Entries close midnight Wednesday January 11, 2017.
Country Champs are always a great weekend of athletic competition and camaraderie. This year will be the first time we have trekked to Dubbo for their new synthetic track – if you enjoy Track and Field you should think about joining us!
