The last day of summer was also the last day of the Friday Night Walk, Run and Socialise Program. The venue for the evening was the beautiful Beach Road in Gerroa National Park. As the French would say, a ‘petit’ number of runners took advantage of the cool evening and the magnificent bush track course. We did manage to maintain our record of at least double figure competitors for each Friday night.
2km:
Rob McDonald was the sole competitor in the 2km event. Rob has enjoyed participating on Friday nights, as he recovers from double knee surgery. Keep walking, Rob. Maybe walk the Winter Cross Country Program.
5km:
Nine runners took to the starting line for the 5km event, including guest Fiona Martin. Deb Sansom, completing her first 5km event since returning to running, finished first. It was a very close affair, with Fiona Martin just being pipped by Deb. The Martins dominated the podium with brother and back marker, Scott, finishing third in a sizzling time of 20.15. Absolute consensus was, “What a lovely course!” There was also general agreement that the course has potential for a NAC event.
Celebration Run at Jervis Bay Brewery – Friday 7th March
As previously advertised, there will be a celebration run from JB Brewery on Friday7th March, with drinks afterwards. Walkers and runners have the option of 2 or 4 kms. It’s completely social, no timing. During the night, we will announce the overall winner of the Friday Night, Walk, Run and Socialise Program. It was a very close finish. The winning runner, pipped our runner up, by a mere point.
We are also looking forward to seeing everyone for the start of Winter Cross Country on Saturday 29th March.
