The Albie Thomas Mile was held on Thursday 20th February 2025 at The Crest Athletics Centre.
Hugh Thirwall kicked off the competition for Nowra in the 800m F race. Hugh was just off his PB with 2.14.95. Next up was Airlie Stevens in the 800m D race. Airlie ran a very gutsy race, demonstrating a maturity beyond her years to fight back in the closing 200m and clocking a 2 second PB with 2.20.69. This was well under the National Qualifying time, and a well-deserved result for her consistent hard work at training.
In addition, Emily McLaren, wearing the Shoalhaven Little Athletics uniform, ran 2.33.84 in the Open 800m E race.
In the Open 5km, Harrison Baxter ran an 11 second PB of 15.11.51 for 2nd place. This was a remarkable run where Harrison took away some great experience at leading the race. In the same race, Oliver Baxter clocked a massive 26 second PB of 15.15.45 in 7th place. This was a National Qualifier for Oliver so it looks as though another Nowra athlete will be packing their bags for Perth this April.
Hamish McLaren also contested the 5km race, running home in 17.24.29 in 12th place. Whilst in the field, Hamish speared 40.15m in the Open javelin event for 6th place.
Will Dyball recorded his 2nd best race of the season in the 800m A race. Mixing it with the top athletes of NSW, Will clocked 1.54.18 for 9th place.
Congratulations to these athletes on a great night of competition.
