Nowra Athletics Club was proud to host the NSW Masters Regional All-Comers at our home ground of Shoalhaven High School on Sunday December 8th, 2024.
There was a small, but passionate group of competitors and the rain held off just long enough for athletes to get through all the events.
The meet saw the second running of the Norman Windred 800m handicap race. This prestigious event is named after NSWMA Life Member Norman Windred who still holds a number of State Records and won a Masters World Championship in the 800m.
Peter Dooley took the win, managing to hold off Erin Smart and Gavin Dyball in the closest Masters handicap race to date. John Smith was 4th followed by Steve Schott then Loretta Norris, Erich Moeller-Duhme and Mathew Watson.
Mrs Jill Windred and her daughter made the trip to Nowra to present the Norman Windred 800m handicap winners sash to Peter Dooley.
In the javelin, Steve Schott speared 33.85m for the biggest throw of the day whilst Lauren Naylor had a great throw of 26.39m and Anne Boatswain achieved 22.13m. Sam Keogh threw 17.77m, Loretta Norris 12.95m and Kerrie Jones 11.95m.
In the discus circle, Steve Schott again recorded the biggest distance with a throw of 28.51m. Anne Boatswain wasn’t too far behind with 25.27m and Sam Keogh threw 23.05m. Jill Taylor recorded a top throw of 21.28m whilst Lauren Naylor achieved 20.76m, Kerrie Jones 15.26m and Loretta Norris 14.53m.
In long jump Liz Lobb had a great jump of 4.80m. Erin Smart’s biggest jump was 4.43m and Loretta Norris’ top effort was 3.98m.
There were just 3 competitors in the 200m with Steve Schott taking the win in 25.67 followed by Erin Smart in 26.40 and Loretta Norris in 31.27.
The Club would like to thank NSW Masters for the opportunity to host an All-Comers meet and look forward to the possibility of hosting again in the future.
