Kerrie Jones made a triumphant return to local track and field competition on Wednesday 27th November with a new record. Kerrie sustained a substantial foot injury recently, whilst competing at the Pan Pacific Games on the Gold Coast. This was Kerrie’s first week back and she managed to break the 70+ shot put record with a measured throw of 6.40m. It’s so great to see Kerrie bouncing back from injury.
Also recording good results in the shot put circle were Steve Schott with 10.71m, Tim Musson with 10.48m, Kadance Naylor with 9.32m and Claire Musson with 9.08m.
Hamish McLaren speared 39.07m in javelin whilst it was great to see Nathan Rose having a go and recording 8.94m.
In the junior discus there were some great efforts from Braxton Naylor with a throw of 18.33m and Kiefer Spearpoint with 17.11m. There were also good results from youngsters Lucy Barker (9.25m), Xander Day (7.18m) and Hazel Saviane (6.65m).
On the track, Macca Davis recorded another good win in the 1500m, sprinting to the finish line in 5:33.83 to beat Gavin Dyball in 5:35.01. Thor Jackson was 3rd in 5:41.82, Madeline Oke was 4th in 5:53.28 and Airlie Stevens was 5th in 5:56.72. The masters runners had a great push to the finish with John Smith crossing in 8th place in 6:16.05, Andrew Heffill crossing in 9th in 6:46.99 and Rod Rose 10th in 7:04.22. It was also fantastic to see Steve Ball running the senior 1500m whilst daughter Maggie supported him, running alongside him after competing in her own race.
The junior 1500m race was well contested with William Heffil taking the win in 6:07.00 followed by Emerson Boatswain in 6:08.11 and then Isla Saviane in 7:39.10. Jameson Day had a great run for 4th place in 8:14.43.
The 600m saw some great competition. Heat 1 was won by a fast finishing Steve Schott with 1:49.75. Erin Smart was a close 2nd in 1:49.91 and Gavin Dyball was 3rd in 1:58.33. Heat 2 was won by Macca Davis in 2:04.19 whilst Thor Jackson was hot on his heels in 2nd in 2:04.27 and William Heffil was 3rd in 2:10.85.
There were 9 heats in the 60m with some impressive results across the ages. Tom Brookes recorded the fastest time with 7.68. Next equal fastest was Erin Smart and Harry Thomson both crossing in 8.38. Evie Smart, proving to be following in her mum’s footsteps, recorded 9.19. Kadance Naylor, a force both in the field and on the track, sprinted 9.36. Zoe Musson continues to push herself in the competition and recorded 9.42, whilst Airlie Stevens ran 9.47 and Elizabeth Davis clocked 9.65. First-timer Nash Hines recorded 9.68 supported by Steve Schott down the straight. Nathan Rose, always an enthusiastic competitor crossed in 9.92. Masters runner John Smith had a great run with 9.96 whilst Andrew Heffill clocked 9.97 which was marginally quicker than his son William’s time of 9.99.
Track and field will finish on Wednesday December 18th with the annual Christmas Mile. Please let a committee member know if you want to run the Mile so we can ensure you have a time recorded for working out the handicap starts.
