Nowra athletes had an action-packed weekend of competition on November 2nd and 3rd.
At the High Velocity Illawong event on Saturday, sprinters and jumpers were out in force. Tom Brookes and Jonah Watson lined up in the first event of the day, the 110m hurdles. Both came out of the blocks firing. Tom earned himself a National qualifying time of 16.58 whilst Jonah, was also on pace for a qualifier but unfortunately, had a fall at the final hurdle. He valiantly picked himself up to finish in 18.73.
Tom also ran the 200m where he clocked 24.40.
Sam Keogh went over the 90m hurdles in a new PB of 15.79 whilst Charli Keogh pushed hard in her 2nd-ever 80m hurdles race to clock a PB of 18.43. Sam sprinted the 100m twice, after the timing system failed in the first run, and recorded 13.69 in her 2nd attempt. In the 200m, Sam ran 29.36 and in long jump, Sam leapt 4.16m. Charli, following in her mother’s footsteps, clocked 16.34 in the 100m, 35.81 in the 200m and jumped 2.89m.
Alisha Mustapic ran personal bests in both the 100m and 200m to kick start her season with 12.93 and 26.55 respectively.
Flynn Kelly handled a false start in the 100m like an absolute pro and rallied himself to run a PB of 13.08. He then ran 27.26 in the 200m and jumped a PB of 5.01m in long jump.
Isla Bailie was jubilant to run a PB of 13.60 in the 100m and backed it up with a huge PB of 4.30m in long jump.
Over at ES Marks Athletics Track, Hamish McLaren kicked off Nowra’s campaign in the 3000m H race, getting under 10 minutes for the first time with 9.54.36.
In the E race, Harrison Baxter had a great run despite the rain, clocking a 9 second PB of 8.45.46 whilst in the D race Oliver Baxter, also had a great race and recorded a 6 second PB with 8.46.03.
Madeline Oke was 6th in the women’s E race and achieved her 2nd best time of 11.23.60.
In the 800m, Airlie Stevens ran a 1 second PB of 2.23.46 taking 3rd in the C race whilst Toby Dyball ran a season best of 2.05.73 in the men’s B race.
Closer to home, many Nowra athletes tested themselves at the Husky Running Festival. Some notable results included Bradley Sawyers winning the half marathon in 01:10:55 and Daniel Wood taking out the 5km fun run in 17:09. Lily Sproule was 2nd female in the 5km, and 1st in 15-19 years, in a time of 19:59 whilst Josie Sproule was 3rd in 10-14 years in 23.37. Finn Goddard recorded a fantastic overall win in the 2km fun run with 9:08. Angela Bond had a great run in the 10km fun run finishing 4th in the 50-59 years group with a time of 54:40. Dean Bryce also had a good run with 46.17 to take 2nd in 50-59 years group. Hardworking Erich Moeller-Duhme finished the 10kms in 56:21, taking the win in the 70+ group whilst Eva Moeller-Duhme shared the winning glory as she crossed in 01:22:23 for 1st place in the female 70+.Madeline Oke, backing up after her 3000m run, contested the Try-A-Tri event and was 3rd female in a time of 40:02. Airlie Stevens was 13th female in 44:14 and Olivia Oke was 18th in 46:12.
In the Super Sprint Solo, Hugh Thirwall was 7th in 34:11, and 1st in the 12-13 years category, Macarthur Davis was 11th overall and 3rd in 12-13 years in 36:04. Kai Thirwall was 25th in 38:48. Miller Bell was 37th overall, and 3rd in the 12-13 years group in 40.18 and Elizabeth Davis was 66th overall and 2nd in the 14-15 years category in 43:29.
In the Sprint Tri Denzel Atkinson crossed the line 19th in 01:18:28, taking 2nd place in the 16-19 years category.
In addition, many of our junior multi club members competed at the St Georges Basin Little Athletics Club Dragon Derby on Sunday.
