Kerrie Jones attended the Australian Masters Athletics (AMA) Winter Throws Competition in Brisbane, held over the weekend of 5th-7th October.
In Kerrie’s words the competition was “a throwers delight”.
Kerrie competed in 9 events for a total of 62 throws and achieved fantastic results.
Kerrie took the win and the National Title in the Heavy Weight Pentathlon with 2184 points. In the heavy weight pentathlon, athletes throw 5 different weights in increasing heaviness and the points for each weight discipline are combined to give the total score. Kerrie’s throws were 8.31m, 8.54m, 7.31m, 5.86m, and 5.33m. Kerrie finished well ahead of her competitors with 2nd place scoring 1924 points and 3rd place 1186 points.
Kerrie also took the win in the Super Weight Throw (9kg) with an impressive distance of 5.55m which was an AMA Winter Throws Championship Record.
In the Throws Pentathlon which consists of hammer throw, shot put, discus, javelin and weight throw, Kerrie finished 2nd with 2227 pts. Kerrie’s throws measured 16.75m, 5.80m, 15.08m, 12.29, and 7.38m.
In the individual events, Kerrie was 2nd in each of the 6 disciplines.

Single arm weight throw 7.66m
To top off a very successful weekend of competition, Kerrie returned home to find the certificate for her Australian Indoor Record for the Heavy Weight Pentathlon which she set back in July, waiting for her.
Kerrie commented on her recent performances and said “it has been a cloud 9 experience”.
