Summit Shoalhaven will take place on July 28th.
Summit Shoalhaven was once known as Shoalhaven King of the Mountain (KOM), and in its original form was started in 1966 by Nowra Athletics Club enthusiasts. The team from Elite Energy have revamped the iconic run up Mount Scanzi over the past few years and in 2024, 58 years after the first KOM, they will again run this course as Summit Shoalhaven.
This year’s event will incorporate a 54km, 36km, 21.1km and 11km events catering for the full spectrum of runners from elite to the weekend warrior.
Nowra Athletics Club members are invited to enter the event of course, but for those not so-keen for long-distance running, are asked to volunteer for the event.
Elite Energy is passionate about involving the local community in each of their events, and reward their volunteers with cash donations. So by volunteering, not only do you get to be involved in a great community event, you also have the opportunity to earn dollars for both Nowra Athletics Club, and yourself.
Half of what each person earns by volunteering will go to the Club, and half will go to the individual (if they choose this option) which they can then use for Club registration or future race entry. The Club will retain a spreadsheet of each person’s credit which will be able to be used/applied at a later stage.
The money that goes to the Club will go into a supportive fund to be used for sponsorship of athletes who are excelling in the sport of athletics or who may be experiencing financial difficulties. The Committee has a strong desire to support the sporting endeavours of eligible members but can only offer financial assistance, dependent on Club income. The money raised by volunteering for events such as Summit Shoalhaven supports the Club’s ability to pay-it-forward for our members.
The Club has proudly provided financial support recently to 4 aspiring athletes, to support their high-achieving performance.
Nowra Athletics Club may provide financial assistance for individual pursuits, to support members to fulfil their potential within athletics and to promote active participation, dedication to the Club, and community engagement.
All requests for financial assistance will be considered by the Committee and may be approved based on a case-by-case review.
The Financial Assistance Policy – Individual Club Members sets out the policy framework and eligibility requirements for a member to be considered for individual financial assistance from the Club.
