The 2024 Oceania Athletics Area Championships were held in Suva, in Fiji from 1-9 June, 2024.
Two Nowra athletes were selected to represent Australia at these Championships in the Under 18 team.As a 16-year-old, Nic McGill contested the Under 18 2000 Metres Steeplechase and took the win in an outstanding and tactically run race. Nic set a new Oceania record of 5:56.21, breaking the previous record of 6.02.50, which was set in 2019 by Patrick Thygesum of Australia. Nic has worked extremely hard to refine his fitness and racing technique and we are very proud of his outstanding results!Alisha Mustapic bravely competed in the Under 18 400m hurdles despite being unwell on race day. Unfortunately Alisha fell at the final hurdle, and although she picked herself up and finished the race, she was officially disqualified. It wasn’t the result she was hoping for of course, but it did demonstrate her amazing resilience and toughness. Alisha has put everything in to developing her skills and devoted herself to the sport of athletics and the Club is so proud of everything Alisha has achieved.
