Longreach Rd was the venue for Round 4 of cross country on Saturday 27th April.
There were 4 enthusiastic competitors in the 1km event. Jack Saviane led the way, finishing in 6:19 followed by sister Hazel Saviane in 6:23 whilst Luke Dennett was 3rd in 6.53 and Steve Dennett was 4th in 6:54.
In the 2km event, Phoebe Armstrong took the win in 12:02 supported by dad Scott Armstrong in 12.04. Malachy Martin was 3rd in 11.47 and Isla Saviane was 4th in 12.11. Winter Bell was 5th in 14.05 and rounding out the field was Sam Dennett in the fastest time of 9:21.
The 3kms was contested by 14 runners and the win went to Brad Stevens in 15.36. Evie Smart was 2nd in 13.55 and Heidi Saviane was 3rd in 14.05. Tom Smart recorded the fastest time of 12.41 as he crossed for 5th place. Interestingly, Airlie Stevens was 14th but just a fraction slower than her dad who was first place getter, with a time of 15:39.
Medium course was won by Lisa Carroll in 25.17. Alex Arnold and Katie Martin ran in next and both recorded the same time of 26:08. There was some close competition in this event with Nic McGill clocking the fastest time of 15.00 as he crossed in 19th place followed by William Dyball with 15.49. Hamish McLaren had a great run with 16.36 in 15th place. Scott Armstrong recorded a good time of 17.01 as did Matt Reid with 17.54. Emily McLaren was the fastest female over this distance with 19.33.
In long course there were 11 competitors. Line honours went to Scott Martin with a time of 42.19. Brad Sawyers was quickest with 37.30, crossing in 2nd place, and 3rd was Daniel Wood in 38.47. Elisha Bell and Tiffany Knight had a closely contested race on the clock – Elisha took 4th place with 45.57 whilst Tiffany crossed in 8th place with a slightly quicker time of 45.49. It’s great to see the competitive running at a local level!
