Nowra Athletics Club was once again, well represented at a major competition on Thursday 28th March, 2024. This time it was at the 2024 Albie Thomas Mile at The Crest Athletics Track. The commentary team gave a big shout out to our Club, commenting on our close-knit athletic community and the growing strength of our Club, which was heartening and testament to the ongoing commitment of our athletes.
Harrison and Oliver Baxter kicked off Nowra’s campaign with the Opens 5000m. Both boys had a strong race where Harrison was 10th in 15.43.61 and Oliver was 15th in 16.17.60.In the Mile F race Cameron Baxter was 6th in a PB of 4.57.77 and in the F race Nic McGill was 7th in a new PB of 4.26.37.In the 800m H race, Matt Reid had a great 2 lap battle at the front with 12 year-old Isaac Zreika from Bankstown. Matt maintained his form to the line, but Isaac’s youth won out. Meanwhile, 13 year old Nowra team mate Hugh Thirwall came through with a committed sprint finish to take 2nd on the line in a PB of 2.15.11, with Matt clocking 2.15.38 for 3rd. The 800m E race saw Toby Dyball have another strong run finishing in 4th place in 2.02.77 whilst Will Dyball also demonstrated consistency in the B race, with a 2nd place in 1.53.72.In the women’s event, Alisha Mustapic ran a quick first lap, then held on for 7th place in a time of 2.25.68.Well done everyone!
