The final night of Track and Field competition was held on Wednesday 28th February. The night consisted of some fun races, and throws, an exciting 4x100m relay and a medal presentation for the season’s point score winners.
The junior 500m race gave runners a handicap start. From a field of 17, it was Riley Sandstrom who took the win followed by Tom Smart then Sylas Murphy. Heidi Saviane pushed hard for 4th and Wyatt Binney was 5th. The senior race saw the competitive streak of athletes come out! A determined Evie Smart won the race followed by John Smith and Josie Sproule. Scott Armstrong was 4th, Evie Binney 5th and Zoe Musson 6th.
A 60m was the next race on the program. Heat 1 was taken out by Emily Love followed by Isla Saviane and Isabella Ansah. Heat 2 was won by Evie Smart with Josie Sproule 2nd and Heidi Saviane 3rd. Heat 3 belonged to Jack Saviane with Darcy Binney 2nd and Akein Wijeratne 3rd. Sylas Murphy won heat 4 followed by Riley Sandstrom and then Wyatt Binney. Heat 5 victory went to Zoe Musson with Evie Binney 2nd and Aurora Boatswain 3rd. The final heat was won by Erin Smart in front of Dennis Smart, John Smith and Scott Armstrong.
Over 110m, there were 3 heats. Darcy Binney won heat 1 with Akein Wijeratne 2nd and Isla Saviane 3rd. Evie Smart won heat 2 followed by Sylas Murphy and Wyatt Binney whilst heat 3 was taken out by Erin Smart followed by Dennis Smart and then Evie Binney.
The racing was capped off by a fun-filled relay where all competitors competed with great enthusiasm.
To end the night, medals were presented to the winners of the track and field point scores. The 2023-2024 season consisted of 14 completed rounds with only 4 wash-outs. Points were added for each event in each grade over the season. Athletes must have participated in at least 50% of competition nights to be eligible for medals and there were plenty of smiles for both the medals and accompanying chocolate!
The Male C Grade was the most closely contested of all the Grades. In the C Grade Field Sylas Murphy took the win with 770 points, in front of Jack Saviane with 760 points and Thor Jackson with 740 points. In the C Grade Track, it was Tom Smart who took the win with 890 points, sneaking in front of Sylas Murphy who accumulated 880 points whilst Wyatt Binney was 3rd with 840 points. It was great competition all season from these boys!
