NSW Milers was held at The Crest Athletics Centre on Thursday 23rd February, 2024.
In the 1500m main race it was “a race for Paris” that did not disappoint! 17-year-old Cam Myers ran the Olympic Qualifying time of 3.33 with Jesse Hunt, Jake Wightman and Jye Edwards, all hot on his heels, and under 3.35. It was a fantastic race to watch! Also running in the A race, amongst the large field of 20 (plus 2 pace runners), were former Nowra members Cam Musgrove and Harry McGill. Cam clocked a new PB of 3.44.49 for 13th place and Harry was 18th in 3.50.49.
Nowra Athletics Club was well-represented across the middle-distance heats and athletes had great success!
From 10 athletes, there were 8 Personal Best’s achieved.
In the 800m I race Gavin Dyball finished 3rd in a new PB of 2.25.21, shaving a fraction off his old PB of 2.25.71. In the 800m H race Matt Reid had a good run to finish 5th with a new PB of 2.16.07, moving down from 2.17.75.Cam Baxter returned to the track in an 800m after a hiatus from this distance and clocked a very respectable time of 2.19.52 in the F race.Sprinter turned middle-distance runner, Alisha Mustapic, showed her fitness and speed to take 2nd place in an 8 second PB of 2.24.07 in the women’s 800m D race whilst Toby Dyball was 6th in the men’s 800m C race in 2.04.24. Nic McGill ran an awesome 1500m to take the win in the men’s D race in 4.03.21. This time was not only an 8 second PB; it was a national qualifier, to go with his steeplechase and 3000m qualifier already in the bag!Oliver Baxter was 12th in the same race in a 7 second PB of 4.15.10.Harrison Baxter also ran a PB, quickening his time from 4.10.54 to 4.07.27 in the men’s 1500m C race for 12th place.Will Dyball was 11th in the men’s 1500m B race in a very strong field. Will ran his first sub 4 minute, clocking 3.57.00.Amelia May ran a Season Best, as her road to full race fitness continues, clocking 4.35.19 in 9th place in the women’s 1500m A race.Congratulations to everyone who raced!
