There was a small crowd at Wednesday night track and field on Wednesday 24th January.
In the 1000m Ethan Havadjia, back home for the holidays, took the win in 3:18.24, in a strong race, holding off Scott Armstrong (3:19.80) and Peter Dooley (3:51.22). Emerson Boatswain was 4th followed by newcomer John Smith. Heidi Saviane was 6th then Mark O’Leary made a welcome return to the track to take 7th pace. Brody Wood also made a return to the Club after a few years absence and took 8th place whilst the field was rounded out by Jack and Isla Saviane.
Scott Armstrong then backed up to take out the 600m in 1:48.31, hot off his success at Country Championships. Emerson Boatswain was 2nd in 2:13.96 followed by Sylas Murphy in 2:21.16.
In the sprints Ethan Havadjia and Brody Wood had a good tussle for the win, with Ethan edging out Brody in both the 60m and 100m. Sylas Murphy and Sam Keogh both had good hit outs whilst the Boatswain family enjoyed the friendly competition with each other as they sprinted for line honours. It was great to see Mason Beck and Emily Peace both enjoy a run, away from the throwing circles.
In the junior shot put Sebastian Barker threw 3.53m, Mason Beck threw 5.17m, Jack Saviane 5.81m and Sylas Murphy 8.39m. In the junior women, Layla Beck had the biggest throw of 9.35m with Abby Beck achieving 7.80m. In the master’s group, Anne Boatswain threw 8.65m for a new shot put record whilst in the long jump Sam Keogh jumped 4.33m for another new 40-49 years record.
Nowra Show is coming up and the Club is looking for athletes willing to compete in the Nowra Show 1km handicap race. The event will be held on Saturday 10th February. If you can participate, please ensure you have recorded a 1000m time and let a committee member know so they can organise the starting list with handicaps.
