There were 2 new records set at Nowra’s Wednesday night Track and Field competition on 26th October, both by our wonderful Masters thrower, Kerrie Jones, who just keeps better with age!
Kerrie threw the hammer 21.46m for a new record in the 70+ age group, bettering last week’s throw of 20.83m and threw a new record of 6.31m in shot. Congratulations Kerrie.
There was a large contingency of throwers in the discus circle this week with the biggest throw of the night going to Tim Musson with his throw of 33.09m. Hamish McLaren wasn’t far behind with his throw of 30.40m. Tori Sayer had a good throw with 29.17m as did Cooper Thomson with 28.60m. Claire Musson achieved 24.10m whilst Emily McLaren recorded 23.79m, Nakita Boatswain 23.31m, Zoe Musson 23.21m and Geoff Crook 22.85m.
There were just 2 athletes keen to participate in triple jump; Cooper Thomson hopped, skipped and jumped 10.60m and Emily McLaren reached 8.99m.
Hamish McLaren took out the 2000m event in 7:10.68 whilst Scott Armstrong was 2nd in 7:24.39 and Peter Dooley was 3rd in 8:11.70.
Scott Martin took out the senior 800m in 2:34.20 followed by Scott Armstrong in 2.38.47 then Emily McLaren in 2.43.10. There were 2 junior heats with Evie Binney taking the win in her heat in 2.51.66 and Tom Smart taking out the other heat in 2.55.46.
In the sprints, over 200m, Erin Smart was the fastest female and overall with a time of 28.00, whilst Harry Thomson was the fastest male with 28.91. In the 60m, 2 athletes clocked a sub 9 second time with Coooper Thomson taking the title of fastest on the night with 8.41, closely followed by Erin Smart with 8.79. It was great to see young Lhiam Crook in the 9 years and under group, improving his speed on the track, clocking a good time of 10.67 in the 60m. As always, our tiniest athletes in the Under 6 group, sisters Hazel Saviane and Rosie Savianne gave it their all in the sprints and continue to inspire us all with their persistence and determination.
Just a reminder to all competing athletes, you must be a financial member to continue participating at Wednesday night Track and Field competition, or Friday night Summer Runs.
