The second week of Track and Field competition took place on Wednesday 27th September. New member Anne Boatswain had a great start to her involvement with the club, setting a new 40-49 years shot put record with a throw measuring 8.45m. Congratulations Anne.
In the high jump there were 4 juniors who cleared over 3m. Evie Binney led the way with a jump of 3.79m, followed by Eva Norris with 3.69m, whilst Josie Sproule cleared 3.23m and Emerson Boatswain 3.08m.
There were a number of athletes stretching out in triple jump with Sam Keogh recording the longest distance of 7.77m. Also jumping well were Lily Sproule with 7.70m and Nakita Boatswain with 7.56m.
In the opening track event, Evie Binney ran hard to take out the junior 800m in 9.64. Emerson Boatswain was 2nd and Heidi Savianne was 3rd. Heat 2 was taken out by Tom Smart with Toby Graham 2nd and Philip Ansah 3rd. Meanwhile the senior race was won by Harrison Baxter with Will Dyball 2nd and Cameron Baxter 3rd.
Hamish McLaren had a nice easy win in the 2kms in 6:58.87 whilst Gavin Dyball put in a solid run to finish 2nd in 7:44.57. Emily McLaren was 3rd in 7:49.42 and was followed by the Smart trio with Tom Smart 4th, Dennis Smart 5th and Evie Smart 6th.
Athletes are reminded that membership for the 2023/24 season has opened, and current members can now renew their membership. Don’t forget that all new memberships are now valid for 365 days of a full season of summer track & field, and winter cross country and road running.
