A group of Nowra athletes kicked off the Track and Field season in Canberra on Saturday 10th September when they competed in the High Noon No 4 series at Woden Athletics Track.
In the girls 10-13 years 60m, Evie Binney clocked 9.33 whilst in the men’s 14-15 years event, Tahj Webb was 2nd in 7.97.
In the 100m, in heat 1 Jonah Watson was 5th in 12.28 and Tom Brookes was 6th in 12.44. In heat 2 Tahj Webb was 2nd in 12.68. Heat 3 saw Alisha Mustapic finish 3rd in 13.27, and Jade Mustapic 6th in 14.17. Finally in heat 4, Evie Binney was 2nd in 14.56.
The 200m was contested by Tahj Webb and he earnt 3rd place in heat 1 in 26.56.
In the 400m, Jonah Watson was 5th in heat 1 in 56.92 with Tom Brookes close on his heels in 57.48. Heat 2 was won by Tahj Webb in 1:01.29 and Matt Watson was 3rd in 1:22.19. In heat 3, Jade Mustapic was 3rd in 1:03.53 and in heat 4, Alisha Mustapic was 2nd in 1:05.47.
In the men’s 14-15 years 1000m event, Cameron Baxter, took the win in 3:01.30 whilst in the men’s 16-17 years race, Hamish McLaren was 2nd in 3:03.04.
In the opens men 3000m, Glen Mustapic was 5th in 13:08.95.
In the hurdle events, Harry Thomson contested the 200m distance but unfortunately suffered a fall before the end of the race and didn’t finish. Thankfully he has recovered well from his mishap. In the 16-17 years 400m hurdles, Jonah Watson was 2nd in 1.03.03 and Tom Brookes was 3rd in 1.07.16.
Evie Binney competed in the girls 11-13 years 1500m steeplechase and put in a strong effort to finish in 6.13.10. In the girls 14-15 years 2000m steeplechase Emily McLaren was 2nd in 8:15.24 whilst in the boys event, Nic McGill took the win in 6:19.38 followed by Cameron Baxter in 6:59.48.
In the field, Hamish McLaren speared 38.22m in the 16-17 years javelin.
It was a great opening for the season by these dedicated athletes with many PB’s, and as always, the Nowra presence was welcomed by the Woden Athletics Club and the Capital Athletics association.
