It was a record breaking season of track and field for Nowra athletes.
Erin Smart led the charge for breaking records, setting 10 new records over the Summer season. It began on November 9th, when Erin set a new 40-49 years 800m record with 2.33.65 and on the same night, set a new 200m record with 27.39.
A week later, on November 16th, Erin set 3 new sprint records; clocking 13.36 in the 100m, 20.28 in the 150m and 1.02.65 in the 400m.
On November 30th, Erin added the 600m to her list of records with 1.42.11. Then on December 7th, in the 60m, Erin chalked up another record, crossing in 8.09 as well as breaking her own 800m record, with a new time of 2.33.09.
Before the season ended, Erin bettered 2 of her earlier records, achieving 13.23 in the 100m and 19.51 in the 150m on January 11th.
Tim Musson managed to re-set a record in the hammer throw 4 times over the season, increasing his distance significantly. On February 1st, Tim threw 16.83m for his 1st record, then on February 15th he increased this record to 19m. On February 22nd, Tim successfully recorded 20.51m before ending the season with a new record of 24.40m on March 1st.
Tori Sayer set a new 30-39 years hammer record on November 16th with a mighty throw of 27.25m. She then set a shot put record on March 1st, putting 9.26m.
Also in the field, Sam Keogh surprised herself on February 15th by setting a new record in the 40-49 years shot put with a throw of 8.18m.
In the juniors, young Riley Sandstrom set 3 records in the Under 9 field events. His 1st record was achieved on November 9th with a throw of 28.51m in the discus circle. Riley leapt to a new long jump record on January 11th when he recorded 4.13m and then on February 22nd, he threw a record 8.21m in shot put.
Archie Higgins jumped into the record books on February 22nd when he long jumped 4.61m. On the same night Brad Sawyers ran a solo 5km and his perseverance and determination earned himself a record of 16.00.86, breaking Rick Bromley’s record of 16.14.00 which was set in 1993-94 season.
