The opening round of cross country was held at Plantation Point in Vincentia on April 9th.
It was pleasing to see a healthy number of runners turn up despite the inclement weather and it being the first day of the school holidays.
The 1km had just one competitor; Will Sproule who ran the distance in 19.54 minutes.
In the 2km event there were eight competitors. Ben Sproule was 1st in 11.16 followed by Jack Kinsele then Hewie Sproule. Aidan McLaren was next home then Malachy Martin, Josie Sproule, Doonan McLaren and Heidi McLaren.
The 3km race was closely contested. The race was taken out by Macca Davis in 12:51 with Lily Sproule in 2nd in 13:15 and Katrina Davis in 3rd in 13:21. Harry Thomson was 4th, hot on Katrina’s tail, crossing in 13:28 whilst Tom Brookes was 5th in 13:45 and Zoe Musson was 6th in 14:09. Completing the 3km field was Tim Musson, Mat Kinsele, Noah Dyball, William Anderson, Declan Lee, Gavin Urquhart, Elizabeth Davis, Harry Davis, Harriet Urquhart, Heath Lee and Steven Thomson.
Medium course had fourteen athletes with Bradley Sawyers taking line honours in 18:06 whilst Denzel Atkinson tied for 2nd with Nicholas McGill in 18:19. Will Dyball was just a smidgen behind, crossing in 18:20. Hamish McLaren was 5th in 19:26 and Darcy Davis was 6th in 20:35. Toby Dyball followed in 21:56 then Emily McLaren was 8th in 22:38 with Gavin Dyball 9th, Darcy Arnold 10th, Angela Urquhart 11th, Alex Arnold 12th, Alison Havadjia 13th and Donna Johnson 14th.
Long course had just three competitors with Scott Martin taking the win in 39:47, whilst Natasha Toms was 2nd in 1:02:17 and Sky Martin was 3rd in 1.07.55.
It was great to resume cross country competition. Next week’s run will be held at Longreach Rd on Easter Saturday.
