The Track and Field Season has drawn to a close with the 2022 Australian Track & Field Championships winding up on Sunday 3rd April.
Nowra athletes had fantastic results at the Championships, competing against the best athletes in Australia.
Max Marshall kicked off the Nationals program for Nowra, competing in the U15 100m where he won his heat in 11.48 and then went on to take the silver medal in the final in a time of 11.54.
Max then contested the U15 200m where he again won his heat, clocking 23.29. In the final Max went on to claim gold with a shiny new PB of 22.96 to become the Under 15 200m National Champion!
Nic McGill ran the race of his life in the U15 steeplechase to claim the silver medal in 6.42.67 which was a massive 17 second PB. It was a thrilling race to watch and we applaud Nic’s bold and courageous run.
Kynan Miller competed in the U15 para shot put and earned himself a bronze medal with his throw of 4.34m. Then in the U15 para discus Kynan was 4th with 14.56m.
Akala Miller competed in the sprint events, finishing 3rd in the U20 para 100m heat in 15.64 and placing 6th in the final in 15.80. In the 200m Akala was 5th in her heat in a time of 35.37.
Tom Duncan finished 13th in U16 steeple in 6.49.62 whilst Harrison Baxter was 12th in U17 steeple event in a PB of 6.59.02. Also contesting the steeplechase was pocket-rocket Emily McLaren who finished 7th in the U15 event in a time of 8.12.30.
Amelia May competed in two events at the National Track and Field Championships, placing 10th in U17 1500m and 12th in the 3000m, finishing as the highest ranking NSW athlete in both events.
Samantha Peace made a great return to National competition, finishing 4th in the preliminary round of the Opens discus with a throw of 47.92m and in the final round Samantha finished 8th.
Former Nowra athlete (now with ACT Athletics) Cam Musgrove contested the Opens 800mand placed 18th overall from a field of 32 high-class experienced athletes.
