Track and field pointscore kicked off on Wednesday 18th September. There were good numbers on the ground for the first week of competition.
There were 34 athletes in the 1500m keeping the volunteers at the finish line busy! Denzel Atkinson took out the race in 5.11.65. He was followed by Brandon Exton in 5.27.80 and Madeline Oke in 5.42.77. William Heffill was 4th in 5.43.99 with Lily Sproule 5th in 5.45.10 and Dave Sproule 6th in 5.45.36.
There were 3 heats of the 600m. Toby Dyball was the victor of the senior race in 1.34.45. Brandon Exton took out his heat in 1.51.06 and Riley Sandstrom won the junior heat in 2.02.51.
In the field, the competition was hot with 3 new records set. Kadance Naylor speared 31.31m in B grade javelin for a new 14-15 years record. Sam Keogh jumped 4.42m for a new 40-49 years long jump record and Kerrie Jones threw 6.40m in shot put for a 70+ record. Well done athletes!
The juniors enjoyed high jump and many managed to clear the bar at 1m or more. Benny Sproule, Jack Saviane and Dean Osgood all jumped 1m. Emerson Boatswain leapt 1.05m whilst Riley Sandstrom, Jackson Sproule and Cash Cheadle all cleared 1.15m.
In the throwing arena there were some great performances including a 31.07m throw in discus from Riley Sandstrom and 37.14m speared by Tim Musson in javelin. The biggest throws in shot put came from Tim Musson with 10.11m, Steve Schott with 9.73m, Claire Musson with 9.53m and Riley Sandstrom with 9.46m.
It was great to see so many athletes enjoying the track and field competition and family friendly atmosphere.
