Nowra Athletics Club had 8 of our junior members compete at the 2024 Australian Cross Country Championships held at Symmons Plains Raceway in Launceston, Tasmania last weekend.
Athletes had to battle gale-force winds, rain and a muddy course, but they showed grit and determination.
Finn Goddard put the disappointment of not getting his State uniform in time to compete, to run a superb race earning himself a bronze medal in the 2km Under 11 race. It was a close race to the finish with 1st place crossing in 8.28, 2nd place clocking 8.29 and Finn finishing in 8.30. Finn also won a team gold medal for NSW.
In the Under 14 3km race Hugh Thirwall finished 40th in 12.45 and in the Under 16 4km Lily Sproule was 37th in 18.19. Emily McLaren contested the Under 17 4kms and was 34th in 18.16 whilst Nic McGill was 16th in the male Under 17 race, clocking 22.50 over 6kms.
In the Under 18 6kms race, Oliver Baxter finished top 10 with 9th place in 22.14 and Hamish McLaren was 43rd in 24.10. In the Under 20 race, which was reduced to 6kms, Harrison Baxter was 21st in 22.52.
The Nowra contingency put in a fantastic effort and we congratulate them on their great results to end the cross country season.
