The 2020 ACPE NSW Junior Championships were held over 3 days 21st -23rd February.
There were 14 athletes from Nowra Athletics club who competed.
Lauren Percival demonstrated her sprinting prowess in the 100m and 200m. Lauren won her heat of the U17 200m in 25.78 then went on to improve her time in the final to take out the silver medal in 25.53. In the 100m Lauren was third in her heat clocking 12.63 and in a closely contested final Lauren finished 4th in 12.71, just marginally behind 2nd and 3rd place getters who were both clocked at 12.57. With her silver medal Lauren has now qualified to compete for NSW in the Australian Athletics Championships. Congratulations Lauren on this wonderful achievement.
Brodie McCluskey also represented Nowra in the sprints in the Under 14 events. Brodie placed 5th in her 100m heat in 13.70 and improved on this time in the final with 13.44 for 6th place. In the 200m Brodie was 3rd in her heat with 27.51 and went on to finish 6th in the final in 27.98.
Charlie Heidke sprinted his way to 8th place in heat 1 of the under 15 100m, clocking 12.87 whilst he finished 6th in his heat of the 200m in 25.98. in addition Charlie cleared 1.50m in high jump to place 8th.
Sprinter Lachlan Kaszonyi placed 5th in heat 3 of the under 20 200m in a time of 23.07 whilst Jonah Watson, still relatively new to the sport of athletics gave it his all in the under 14 200m and finished 6th in heat 2 in 29.75.
Tackling the middle-distance event of 800m were a number of athletes. Toby Dyball finished 9th in heat 2 of the under 14 event clocking 2.34.08 whilst big brother Will Dyball finished 8th in heat 1 of the under 16 event with 2.08.71.
Nash Hay ran well to finish 3rd in heat 1 of the under 17 800m in 2.10.43. Nash also competed in the 1500m where he ran a PB of 4.31.84 for 15th place.
Cooper Barrett lined up in the 800m finishing 6th in heat 2 in 2.32.41 for the under 15 event. Cooper also competed in his very first steeplechase event claiming a bronze medal which means he has now qualified to compete for NSW in the Australian Athletics Championships. Congratulations Cooper.
Also competing in steeplechase were Jacob Pepper who finished 17th in the Male Under 17 event in 7.27.06 and Ella Dyball who placed 5th in the female under 17 event clocking 8.19.37.
Alexis Charalambous competed in the Under 17 1500m, her first competition event in some time, after coming back from injury, and finished 11th in 5.52.09.
In the field Max Beck hurled the discus 33.33 metres for 10th place in the under 15 event. Max also finished 8th in shot put with a throw of 8.30m.
Louis Losurdo demonstrated his multi skills across 3 events. Louis speared 8th place in the under 16 javelin with a throw of 33.58m and jumped to 15th place in long jump with a jump of 4.92m. Louis also raced in the 400m and placed 8th in heat 2 clocking 61.26.
