NSW Road Relays were held on Sunday 6th August at The Crest in Bass Hill. Nowra sent just 2 teams but both teams did themselves and the club proud and managed to bring home medals in the process.
The U16 girls team finished 3rd for the bronze medal in a time of 31:39. Emily McLaren led the team out with a solid run, clocking 7.45. Thirteen-year old Mikaela Monkerud bravely ran the 2nd leg in 8:36 followed by sister Mia Monkerud who completed her leg in 7.35. Lily Sproule brought the team home strongly, running the final leg in 7.41.
Nowra entered an U20 male team, but the team suffered a late withdrawal of 18 year old Will Dyball. Will was substituted by 13 year old Cameron Baxter who joined older brothers Harrison, aged 16 and Oliver aged 15, along with Nic McGill, also 15. Harrison led the team out with a strong run of 12.18. Next out for Nowra was Oliver Baxter who ran strongly too finishing his leg in 12:38. The 3rd leg was completed by Cameron Baxter in a solid time of 13:48 then Nic McGill brought the team home in another good time of 12:27.
The boys ran strongly against their much older competitors and collectively clocked 51.12 to take the silver medal. They were not far behind the Newcastle Flyers team who finished in 50.30 whilst 3rd place Randwick Botany Harriers finished in 52.26.
A BIG congratulations to our Nowra teams on their great results.
