Australian Masters Athletics National Track and Field Championship were held in Hobart, Tasmania, over Easter 2024. Erin Smart travelled across the Strait to compete and whilst there, secured her title of queen of the track!
Erin opened her Nationals campaign with a win in the 40 years 60m with a time of 8.23, in front of New Zealander Joeline Jones (8.39) and Queensland’s Natalie Hartman (8.49).In the 100m, it was a repeat of the 60m with the same finish order. Erin’s winning run of 12.66 secured a 2nd gold medal whilst 2nd place clocked 13.23 and 3rd place 13.42.
In the 200m, Erin won her heat in 27.88. Then in the 200m final, Erin went on to take the trifecta with another win, clocking 25.86. Once again 2nd place went to Joeline Jones (26.80) and 3rd went to Natalie Hartman (27.17).
Erin rounded out her campaign with a win in the 400m. Erin smashed the field taking the win in 58.10 in front of Joeline Jones who clocked 1:01.90 and NSW athlete Joanna Lodge, with 1.02.31.
4 golds from 4 events! What a champion!
In addition, Erin added a silver medal to her Tasmanian haul with her part in the NSW women’s 30+ team in the 4x400m relay. Joanna Lodge, Amanda Coombe, Rebekah Power and Erin finished 2nd in a combined time of 4:24.95.
